This Bulletin affects Checkmate users who DO NOT have Microsoft MapPoint installed on their PCs and who want to look up addresses within Geotab reports.
Until recently, Checkmate has used the geocoder.ca web service to lookup addresses in the event that Microsoft MapPoint was not installed on the user’s PC. This service is no longer available for free anonymous use.
In response, Geotab has released a Checkmate 5.3 update that includes Microsoft Virtual Earth geocoding, which will be used when Microsoft MapPoint is not installed on the users’ PC. This update will enable users who do not have MapPoint installed to lookup addresses in Checkmate. Users who have MapPoint installed will not be affected by the update.
After installing this new release, Checkmate will automatically populate the first 10 addresses of any report which uses the address lookup feature. Additional addresses can be manually requested by the user. This can be done by right clicking on the row and selecting “Lookup Address”.
ClickOnce customers will receive this free Checkmate update automatically when they open the software. Any customers running an MSI version of Checkmate 5.3 can download the update from the following link:
http://update.geotab.com/builds/5.3....8070.msi. Any customers running an earlier release of Checkmate (5.2 and older) who are no longer receiving address lookups, can upgrade to this newer build of Checkmate at no cost. Customers who do not wish to upgrade their Checkmate build, can alternatively install Microsoft MapPoint on their PCs, if they require the address lookup feature.
Please note that all users must comply with the Microsoft Virtual Earth or Microsoft MapPoint licensing terms. Details on Microsoft Virtual Earth licensing terms are available on the Microsoft website:
