When I bought my plug-in hybrid in 2019, I was one of the first in my condo to own one. It wasn’t easy—installing a charger in a shared parking lot was a hassle. But despite the challenges, it felt rewarding because I knew I was taking a meaningful step toward a greener future.

Spain has made great strides since then. In 2023, registrations for electrified vehicles surged by 48% compared to the previous year. People and companies are excited about the shift to electric vehicles (EVs) because it's clearly the direction we need to move. However, we still need to pick up the pace.

Government initiatives like the MOVES Plan have made a difference by offering subsidies for EV purchases and expanding charging stations. Yet, many consumers remain hesitant, worried about the still-developing charging infrastructure and lingering range anxiety. Public chargers are too scarce, and without reliable access, people fear being stranded.

Fleet managers I speak to often share the same concerns—they know transitioning to electric is the future, but they’re cautious. Businesses are eager to meet ambitious sustainability goals, but they want to be certain EVs will provide a solid return on their investment. That’s where data comes in. At Geotab, we offer real-time insights on battery performance, energy consumption, and vehicle range, helping businesses manage their EV fleets with confidence. This data builds trust and reinforces that the switch to EVs is a smart investment.

The transition won’t happen overnight, but it doesn’t need to be overwhelming. I always suggest starting small—add a few EVs to your fleet and begin the journey now. Eventually, everyone will make the switch, so why wait?

Electric vehicles are full of potential, and the future is bright. We just need to push forward faster. For me, this journey is personal—I see the benefits every day. Now, it’s time for the rest of Spain to fully embrace the possibilities.
