What’s new in MyGeotab — August 2024

Last updated on August 26, 2024 in Product Updates by MyGeotab and Technical Writing Teams |  4 minute read

Welcome to our latest summary of updates to MyGeotab.

Enhancing fleet safety: New collision detection rules rollout begins

At Geotab, we understand that reducing collisions and managing their impact is crucial for fleet safety. Our latest updates, driven by data from over four million connected vehicles and AI models, are designed to make it easier for you to track and manage collision events effectively, leading to smoother fleet operations and improved overall safety.

These improvements provide more accurate and visible collision alerts, helping fleet managers quickly respond to incidents, reduce driver stress, and shorten claim cycles.

Here’s what you need to know over the next few weeks:

  • The Major Collision Rule is currently available.
  • The Minor Collision Rule will begin rolling out over the next few weeks.
  • Both rules will be automatically enabled by default so you don’t miss out on any collision data.

    Verify major collision within Exceptions

Here’s how these updates benefit you:

  • Enhanced Collision Alerts: The updated Major Collision Rule now provides more reliable warnings for high-impact collisions with at least 2.5 G-force, ensuring that your fleet is quickly alerted to serious incidents. Additionally, the new Minor Collision Rule detects lower-impact collisions between 1.5 and 2.5 G-force, such as minor parking lot bumps or sideswipes.
  • Seamless Integration: These new rules have been automatically integrated into MyGeotab. All Safety-Collision dashboards, reports, and data connectors will reflect these improvements, keeping your fleet data accurate and up-to-date.
  • Improved Precision: As the new rules start identifying potential collisions, you’ll find them listed under Exceptions, just like any other rule.

! IMPORTANT: While these alerts are highly reliable, they are still predictive. To further enhance our models, we’ve introduced a labeling feature that lets you verify detected collisions. Your feedback helps refine our AI models, contributing to even greater accuracy in the future.

This means you can get immediate help and resources without having to manually search or wait to speak with a Support agent.

This upgraded feature is available to all Customers and Partners with access to MyGeotab > Support.

✱ NOTE: For this release, the Virtual Agent will only be available in English; Spanish and French users will be directed to a live Support agent.

Simplified login process for multi-database users

We’re excited to announce an upgrade to the MyGeotab login process for MyAdmin and SAML users with access to multiple databases. Now, the application will prompt you to specify the database you want to access, eliminating the need to log out and in again. This update has the following benefits:

  • Prevents Frustration: No more repeated logins to switch databases
  • Streamlined Access: Log into the correct database immediately, without random selection.
  • Improved Efficiency: Save time with a more straightforward login process.

Manage your unidentified driving in MyGeotab

We’re thrilled to announce a new feature in MyGeotab that makes managing unidentified driving events simpler and more efficient! This update is especially beneficial for ELD customers who need to handle unidentified driving with ease.

Unidentified Driving page

Here’s how the new page enhances your experience:

  • Direct Actions: You can now assign or annotate unidentified driving events directly on the new page, without juggling multiple tabs. This streamlined approach saves you time and reduces complexity.
  • Simplified Organization: Events are neatly grouped into trips, making it easier to manage and understand unidentified driving events. This organization helps you quickly see the context of each event.
  • Advanced Filters: Apply filters for Minimum Distance or Duration to zero in on relevant events and streamline your workflow. This feature helps you find what you need quickly.

For more information, refer to the “Unidentified driving” section of the Administrator’s Guide to the Drive App.

Improving log timestamp accuracy

We’ve updated MyGeotab to improve how log timestamps are displayed. Now, the edited date time will only show if a log has been modified. This change is especially valuable for users who regularly view driver logs in MyGeotab.

New features on MyGeotab’s Beta Installation Pending page

We’re excited to announce we’ve enhanced the MyGeotab Installation Pending page in Beta. We have included three powerful new features: ServiceSwap, and Remove. These updates bring MyGeotab in line with MyAdmin's Install tool, making device management more seamless for Fleet Managers.

  • Service Feature: Accept installer suggestions directly to update essential asset information such as name, license plate, and VIN. This ensures your asset details are always current without extra steps.
  • Swap Feature: Easily manage device swaps by accepting swap records. The old device will be archived and unplugged, halting data reporting, while the new device takes over with continuous data reporting. This feature maintains your asset’s historical data during transitions.
  • Remove Feature: Handle device removals smoothly by accepting remove records. The old device is archived and unplugged, stopping data reporting to the database.

You can enable this feature in Beta by navigating to UserOptionsBeta features tab > Toggle On New installation record notification.

! IMPORTANT: Only users with the DeviceAdminDeleteUnplugReplace clearance can view or accept Removal and Swap records, ensuring secure management of device changes.

Keep an eye out for access to the ServiceSwap, and Remove features – available throughout the week of August 26, 2024. For additional details, refer to the Installation Pending section of the Product Guide.

Enhanced asset management – switch between Asset, Trailer and other Asset Type groups

We’re excited to introduce a new feature that brings greater flexibility to the Asset type dropdown in MyGeotab! Previously, once an asset was assigned to a specific Asset type group, it couldn’t be changed. With our latest update, you can now easily change the Asset type group for trailers, vehicles, and other assets, provided there are no associated ELD or DVIR logs. This update enhances the following:

  • Error Correction: Quickly correct any misclassified assets without the need to recreate them, saving you time and effort.
  • Simplified Asset Management: Make changes to asset categories with ease, allowing for more accurate and flexible asset management.
  • Accurate Records: Keep your asset records precise and up to date with minimal hassle.
