Improved device status report for offline device management

We’ve made improvements to asset reporting based on your feedback. We’ve heard that the Watchdog report does not provide insights aligned with the Asset Inventory summary cards, and we’ve created a new report that will address this gap.

Previously, device online/offline status primarily catered to GO devices, which could lead to false positive offline alerts for fleets using a variety of device types, including GO Anywhere devices, OEM data feeds, or third-party Marketplace solutions.

Now, the Asset and Asset Details pages use new, predetermined time periods to notify you if a device is offline, based on the specific device type being monitored. This means more accurate and reliable insights into your device connectivity, regardless of the device type.

New Device Online and Offline report

To further support your device management needs, we've also introduced the new Device Online and Offline report. This report provides a downloadable format of the device online/offline information displayed on the Assets page, allowing for deeper analysis and reporting.  The Watchdog report continues to be a source of information for GO device offline status, as well as asset utilization insights specific to the GO device.

Where to find it

  • The new device status insights are displayed at the top of the Assets page in MyGeotab.
  • The Device Online and Offline report can be found by navigating to ReportsReport Setup, listed under the Device Report heading.

Clean Truck Check solution updates to improve user experience

We're committed to making CARB compliance easier for our customers. Based on your feedback, we've made several enhancements to our CleanTruckCheck solution to improve the enrollment process, reporting reliability, and overall user experience.

What's new?

  • Improved Enrollment Process: The enrollment page now includes VIN, reducing the time spent navigating between pages. We've also optimized IOX detection and prevented enrollment for archived assets, making the process faster and more efficient.
  • Reliable Reporting: We've resolved issues with downloading CSV/XML reports for failure status, helping you access accurate and timely information.
  • Device Sampling Parameter Settings: Devices now retain the necessary parameters for Clean Truck Check scanning, eliminating the need for manual adjustments.
  • Universal IOX Compatibility: All vehicles can now enroll with firmware version 40.38 and later, expanding compatibility and simplifying the enrollment process.
  • Improved Handling of SPNs: Invalid or improper SPNs are now handled and passed along, ensuring compliance with CARB's reporting requirements.

Easier asset management with view-only access

We've enhanced the security permissions in MyGeotab to give you more granular control over asset information. With the new View Assets clearance, users can now access detailed asset information without the ability to make changes.

Asset view-only access in MyGeotab

Balancing data access and security

This update addresses the challenge of balancing data accessibility with data security. Previously, users often had either full administrative access to edit asset details or limited access that didn't provide enough information for their tasks.

The View Assets clearance solves this problem. Users with this clearance can view comprehensive asset details, including vehicle identification number (VIN), license plate number, and other important information, without the risk of accidental edits.

Benefits for administrators and users

  • Improved Security: Prevent unauthorized edits and ensure data integrity.
  • Increased Efficiency: Grant users access to the information they need without compromising security.
  • Simplified Management: Easily control who can view and edit asset details.

Where to find it

You can find the new View Assets clearance by navigating to PeopleClearances in MyGeotab.

✱ NOTE: This update replaces the old List Assets clearance. Users previously granted this clearance will now have access to view asset details in addition to the asset list.

What’s next: New updates coming in March

New native MyGeotab video features replacing Add-Ins

The Cameras and Video Center add-in pages will be moving in March as Geotab transitions over to its native video feature! We've heard your feedback and recognize that cameras and video recordings are used for more than just safety purposes. To improve your workflow, we're relocating these pages to more intuitive locations within MyGeotab.

Here are a few important changes:

  • Video Center is changing to Video Recordings: You'll find it in the main menu, making it quicker to access.
  • Cameras is changing to Video Devices: This tab is located under the Assets page, centralizing all your device management tasks.

The Live Video button is relocating to the left side of the page when selecting an asset on the Map.

System Settings design refresh for easier navigation

We've heard your feedback and are excited to announce a refreshed design for System Settings in MyGeotab! We recognize that navigating through numerous settings can be time-consuming. To improve your experience, we launched an improved System Settings page as a Beta feature in December 2024, and are pleased to announce that these updates will become the default experience in early March.

System Settings page overview

What's changed?

We've reorganized the settings into a more logical structure, grouping related settings together and making them easier to find. We've also updated the design to be more consistent with the rest of MyGeotab, with improved tooltips and a cleaner look and feel.

The new page features eight tabs for improved organization:

  • General: Basic settings such as the Company Profile and Partner information
  • Maps: Map and location-related settings
  • Assets: Risk management and restricted data mode settings, as well as additional property sets
  • HOS: Hours of Service settings
  • User accounts: Account settings and SAML certificates
  • Communications: Notification settings and key points of contact for your organization
  • Data purge: Retention schedule settings
  • Add-Ins: Add-In-related settings

This redesign will help you quickly and easily find the settings you need, without having to search through multiple menus or pages.

Where to find it

The redesigned System Settings page will be available in early March in the same location as the previous page, under SystemSettings.

✱ NOTE: This update focuses on improving the organization and design of the System Settings section. There are no changes to the functionality of the settings themselves.

New Driver Logs page (Beta)

We're excited to announce the beta release of our new and improved Driver Logs page! This update addresses the limitations of the existing HOS logs page by consolidating key information and providing a more user-friendly interface.

What's New?

The new pages will allow you to access key driver log data, including graphs and violation details, in one central location.

Driver Logs Overview page

This page offers a fleet-wide view of your drivers' logs, allowing you to quickly assess their current status and identify any potential issues. You can filter by group, driver, ruleset, and driver status to focus on specific areas of interest. Each driver's daily log is represented by a graph, providing a visual representation of their duty status changes throughout the day. You can hover over the graph to see more details about each status change, including the duration and any associated information. This overview page helps you to quickly identify patterns or issues that may require attention.

Driver Logs Details page

For a more in-depth look at a driver's daily log, you can access the Driver Logs Details section. This section provides detailed information about the driver's activity, including:

  • Violations: Any violations incurred by the driver are clearly indicated.
  • Availability: See the driver's current availability status and remaining hours.
  • Time spent in different statuses: View a breakdown of the time spent in each duty status.
  • Co-driver details: If applicable, view information about the co-driver.
  • Totals: See the total distance driven, time spent driving, and resting time.
  • Cycle recaps: View how much time the driver has spent against their cycle.
  • Assets and co-drivers: View all associated assets (vehicles, trailers, shipments) and co-drivers with the log.

This detailed view helps you to understand the driver's daily activity and identify any areas that may need further investigation or attention.

Where to find it

You’ll be able to find the new Driver Logs page by navigating to ComplianceHOSDriver Logs after enabling the feature on the Beta Features tab in your user profile.

Key Benefits

  • Reduced time spent troubleshooting: Easily identify and address driver log issues with the consolidated overview.
  • Improved user experience: The updated UI makes it easier to view and manage driver log data.
  • Enhanced efficiency: Access all necessary information in one place, eliminating the need to navigate multiple tabs or pages.

Access route completion percentage data via API

We're launching a new API offering that will allow you to access live route completion data programmatically! This new feature will enable you to build in-house operational dashboards and other integrations with your existing systems, and is ideal for Public Works organizations that have the technical resources to create applications and dashboards that can integrate with APIs.

How it works

The GetRouteCompletionProgress API will return the following data:

  • Current progress of route completion, as a percentage, for each top-level route within a given Service Group
  • Live service mode, returning all completion data up to the reset log time (which is set via the MyG Route Completion UI)

✱ NOTE: Data received is limited to only the groups to which the user account used has full access.

What can you do with it?

You can programmatically access Route Completion data for a wide variety of possibilities including:

  • Integrating with other systems and data sources related to your operations
  • Visualizing in your own in-house database solutions
  • Sharing data more easily between teams/departments within your organization

This new API offering gives you greater flexibility to consume, organize, integrate, and visualize data for your winter operations.

✱ NOTE: This API is currently being rolled out in a limited launch, with a full launch planned for April 2025. If you are interested in using this API, please contact your Geotab Reseller or Partner Account Manager.

New Public Works Admin page and service rule archiving

We're excited to announce a new feature that will help you declutter and optimize your Public Works workflow: service rule archiving! This new functionality allows you to archive past or irrelevant service rules, keeping your workflow organized and improving database performance.

Public works admin menu

Service rule archiving benefits

Many customers create new rules each season due to changes in their routes, and create additional rules for non-winter services such as street sweepers. Over time, this can lead to a long list of active rules, making it difficult to find the ones you need. Archiving past or unused rules will help you:

  • Reduce Clutter: Keep your database organized and easy to navigate.
  • Improve Performance: Archived rules no longer generate exceptions, reducing database storage and server load to process rules.
  • Streamline Management: Easily find and manage active rules, improving efficiency.

How it works

The new Public Works Admin page will be available under the Public Works menu in MyGeotab. From there, you can:

  • List and Filter Rules: View all existing service rules, filter by status (active/archived), and search by rule name.
  • Archive and Activate Rules: Archive individual rules or multiple rules in bulk. You can also easily restore archived rules by activating them again.
  • Toggle Between Active and Archived Rules: Easily switch between active and archived rules in historical views.

✱ NOTE: Archiving a rule does not delete its historical data. All historical data will remain available, but no new exceptions will be generated for archived rules.
