Whether he’s strategizing in Geotab's Milan office or on the table tennis court, Franco Vigano, Director of Strategic Channel Development, brings focus, drive, and a competitive spirit to everything he does.
Franco’s journey with Geotab began in 2016 when researching telematics solutions for his previous company. After learning about Geotab’s innovative solutions, Franco took them across the globe, becoming Geotab’s very first reseller in Italy. Inspired by Geotab’s vision and entrepreneurial spirit, Franco decided to bring his talents to the company in 2019 on the Strategic Partnerships team.
"My unique journey as both a customer and reseller has given me invaluable insights that shape my perspectives and contributions at Geotab,’’ said Franco.
But Franco's drive for excellence isn't confined to the office; it finds a surprising outlet in the world of competitive table tennis. Far from just a recreational player, Franco has competed in USA Table Tennis (USATT) and Italian Table Tennis Federation (FITET) leagues. He also recently competed on the world stage at the 2024 Veteran World Table Tennis Championship in Rome. Representing Italy, he played amongst a field of over 6,500 athletes from around the world. ‘’It was a unique and exciting experience, even if the results weren’t great. But I’ll get my revenge at the next World Championships in Seoul in 2026,’’ he joked.
When asked how his passion for table tennis translates to his work at Geotab, Franco explained the importance of continuous training to enhance skills. ‘’To succeed in anything, you need to dedicate time. Table tennis requires continuous training to acquire speed and automatic responses,’’ he said. ‘’It’s the same at Geotab - you have to anticipate events, adapt quickly, and maintain concentration.’’
Between Geotab’s Milan office and in the field, Franco spends his time with Partners and spearheading business development projects. ‘’Besides the Italian market, which has been my main focus over the past two years, I work closely with the European team on global accounts,’’’ said Franco.
‘’What I’m most proud of during my time at Geotab is building a strong relationship with the teams I work with. Over my five years at Geotab, I've had the privilege of seeing some colleagues grow professionally, and I like to think I’ve played a part in that. Just as I enjoy being inspired by others, I’m grateful for the chance to inspire and teach something valuable in return,’’ he said.
Franco says participating in sports helps him to be the best version of himself at work and in his personal life. ‘’Other sports I try to keep up with are cycling and swimming which have a meditative aspect beyond the physical benefits, helping me to reset and focus,’’ he said.
Franco's passion for improvement in both table tennis and his role at Geotab drives his success. Just as he anticipates his opponent's moves on the table tennis court, Franco anticipates market trends and challenges, ensuring Geotab remains at the forefront of the telematics industry. His athletic experience demonstrates how focus, dedication, and competitive spirit learned in sport can create professional success.
