When Hurricane Helene struck communities across the U.S., leaving a trail of destruction and families struggling, small acts of kindness became a ray of hope Seeing the stories of families who lost everything, Jessica Malek, Senior Partnership Business Development Manager at Geotab, decided to take action. “I couldn’t just stand by,” she shared. “The stories I saw on social media made the situation feel immediate and personal. It wasn’t just about feeling empathy; it was about doing something tangible to make a difference.”
Jessica joined Geotab in 2016, and since then, she's held various roles, from managing national accounts to shaping strategic partnerships with industry giants like Ford, GM, and Stellantis. Her work touches nearly every corner of Geotab, connecting her with teams in product development, engineering, sales, marketing, and legal. This constant drive to connect and contribute, whether at work or in her personal life, is a hallmark of Jessica's character. It's what fuels her to go the extra mile, both in exceeding expectations at Geotab and in extending a helping hand to those in need. “It’s incredibly rewarding to know that my work drives impactful results for our customers and partners alike,” she said.
To support the recovery efforts after the hurricane, Jessica took time away from her job to lend a helping hand. “The entire plan came to life within just seven days, and having my Manager’s permission and encouragement to step away from work for a few days gave me the flexibility to focus fully on what mattered,” Jessica shared. With just a week to plan, Jessica teamed up with her childhood best friend, Sara, to organize a relief effort. They packed two SUVs with essential supplies, donated by friends, neighbors, and even Jessica’s Geotab colleagues. “I shared my plan in our company chat group at Geotab, letting my colleagues know they could contribute through my Venmo if they wanted to help gather supplies,” Jessica explained. When donations outgrew their vehicles, a third friend stepped in with a trailer, ensuring that every contribution made it to storm-affected areas in North Carolina and Florida. What’s more, Geotab’s collaborative culture also played a huge role in making this effort possible. “From donating to my Venmo to simply offering words of encouragement, their backing reinforced how much of a community Geotab truly is,” she said.
For Jessica, the journey went beyond delivering supplies. “It was about offering hope and showing people they weren’t alone,” she said. The experience was humbling and it reminded her of the power of community and the unexpected ways giving back can transform not just others, but ourselves. “When we give, we also receive in ways we never expect.”
Reflecting on the hurricane relief effort, Jessica realized it wasn't just about the supplies, but the connections forged and the hope rekindled. This experience transcended giving; it was a testament to human connection and the ripple effect of small acts of kindness, reinforcing her belief that everyone has the capacity to create meaningful change. This belief was deeply intertwined with her drive to excel at Geotab, where she brought the same dedication and collaborative energy to forging partnerships and supporting colleagues. Jessica's journey demonstrated that high performance wasn't just about achieving goals; it was about channeling that drive to make a difference, both within the company and beyond, inspiring others to find their cause and contribute to something truly impactful.
