Our Responsible AI Commitment
Public AI Statement Introducing Our Core Principles & Practices
Our Approach
At Geotab, we recognize and welcome the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance our operations, products, and services. This page outlines our commitment to the responsible procurement, development, deployment, supply, and/or use of AI to ensure ethical considerations are upheld, AI risks are managed, and compliance to emerging regulation is anticipated.
Our Principles
In alignment with our established enterprise values, including sustainability, diversity, equity, and inclusion, corporate social responsibility, we are committed to upholding ethical principles in the procurement, development, deployment, supply, and/or use of AI technologies.
Our AI principles encompass the following:
1. System Trustworthiness: Every AI system that is procured, built, used, or sold by Geotab shall strive to achieve appropriate levels of all trustworthy characteristics, comparable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology AI Risk Management Framework (NIST AI RMF). The achievement of each of these characteristics will depend on the use case and may require tradeoffs between characteristics, which will be justified and documented.
This principle includes:
Validity and Reliability
All AI systems shall consistently provide accurate outputs or otherwise behave within a defined range of acceptability when subject to expected conditions of use.
Safety
No AI system shall endanger human life, health, property, or the environment.
Security and Resiliency
All Al systems shall withstand unexpected adverse events or unexpected changes in their environment or use, maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and availability in the event of adversarial or unauthorized actions.
Accountability and Transparency
Meaningful and timely information about every AI system shall be provided to all relevant stakeholders, tailored to the expected knowledge and accessibility needs of each audience. An accountability structure governs each decision made related to an AI system.
Explainability and Interpretability
All AI systems shall be designed and documented to answer how and why a decision was made by the system, to the fullest extent possible.
Privacy-Enhanced
All AI systems shall safeguard human autonomy, identity, and dignity with respect to privacy to the fullest possible extent.
Fairness
All AI systems shall meet a defined metric of fairness appropriate for its context and shall manage all forms of harmful bias, including system bias, computational and statistical bias, and human-cognitive bias.
2. Human Oversight and Accountability: We commit to ensuring that all processes and materials related to AI in our organization are subject to proper oversight mechanisms to enable the responsible procurement, development, deployment, supply, and/or use of AI. We also embrace all sources of external accountability, including seeking independent audits and certifications, monitoring by governmental organizations, and meaningful transparency with interested public parties.
3. Beneficence, Equity, and Ethics: We shall align our AI strategy with the broader interest of our organization to preserve and promote societal well-being. This includes our commitments to ethical frameworks related to sustainability, equity and human rights.
4. Continual Learning: As the technological and regulatory environment of AI rapidly develops, we are committed to a culture of open-mindedness, flexibility, and dialogue. We shall engage with partners, peers, stakeholders, and the public to invest in shared knowledge and a shared vision for responsible AI.

AI applications we will not pursue
In addition to the goals mentioned above, we will refrain from creating or utilizing AI technologies that may cause or are likely to result in overall harm. We will also avoid developing AI systems whose objectives conflict with broadly accepted international laws and human rights principles. In situations where there is a significant risk of harm, we will only proceed if we are confident that the potential benefits significantly outweigh the risks. Additionally, we will implement appropriate safety measures to mitigate risks.
As our understanding of AI continues to grow, this list of principles may evolve over time.
Implementing Our Principles
We assess projects for new AI research and applications for alignment with our Principles. As advanced technologies emerge and evolve, we’ll continue to refine our process/AI Governance program.
Responsible development of Ace
In addition to the already known Responsible AI (mostly machine learning) deployment principles, Gen AI introduces additional challenges.
In the context of this project, we faced specific challenges and overcame them using a multi-faceted solution. Specifically, our approach relied on:
- Human-centric design meaning that we have our end users in mind while designing our systems.
- As always, focusing on our high quality data collection
- Grounding the model in fact
- Red teaming or ethical hacking to stress test the models and
- Making sure we are deploying an enterprise grade solution.

Become a pioneer in Sustainable AI
At Geotab, we believe that Responsible AI means Sustainable AI. We will also continue to monitor very carefully the environmental impact of our AI usage and promote the adequate balance between innovation and sustainability.
Canada’s Voluntary Code of Conduct on Responsible AI
Geotab is proud to be part of a growing community of Canadian organizations committed to safe and ethical AI practices.
This commitment aligns with our mission to harness data and AI responsibly, empowering organizations to make informed decisions that improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability. By embracing this Code, we’re reaffirming our dedication to responsible innovation that benefits businesses, communities, and the environment.
Geotab looks forward to working alongside government, industry, and community partners to shape an AI-powered future we can all trust.
